The apparent plan in place for the San Francisco 49ers backfield is that Frank Gore will continue to be the lead back with Kendall Hunter working as the primary No. 2 and LaMichael James picking up the scraps and working as a returner on special teams. However, Gore just turned 30 and has more than 2,200 touches worth of wear and tear on his body, and Hunter still is working his way back from last season's partially torn Achilles, so James has had a chance to impress during training camp -- and he's done just that.
