Last week, I took a look at the possibility of Darius Slay starting at cornerback for the Detroit Lions. On Friday, the Lions appeared to confirm that he will start, because they cut Chris Houston, who remains hampered by a nagging toe injury.
Slay has impressed this offseason and seems to be a better fit in new defensive coordinator Teryl Austin's system than he was as a rookie in Gunther Cunningham's system.
"The second-year cornerback out of Mississippi State was one of the better performers in Teryl Austin’s new man-cover scheme this offseason. It’s a scheme that Slay says better suits his game, which showed in his play during the open practice sessions," wrote Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com.
