Why Packers signed TE Lyerla

Since the Green Bay Packers still don't know whether Jermichael Finley will be medically cleared to play this season or whether he will re-sign with the team, they still are in the market for a pass-catching tight end. With that in mind, they signed undrafted free agent Colt Lyerla on Monday. Lyerla has had myriad off-field issues, including leaving Oregon early and being arrested for possession of cocaine, which played a large role in him not being drafted.
