The Detroit Lions defense took a significant leap over the past year, jumping from 27.3 points allowed per game (ranking 27th in the NFL) in 2012 to 23.5 points allowed per game (15th) in '13. Much of that improvement had to do with their young D-line coming together, but now they have a new defensive coordinator, as Gunther Cunningham has been replaced by Teryl Austin. Despite the coaching changes, it appears that the Lions will continue utilizing the wide-nine technique.
