Just 18 quarterbacks played in all 16 games this season. That means that 14 teams had to use a backup at some point in 2013. When it comes right down to it, every team is one play away from being in that situation, which makes having the right backup a key for every franchise.

With that in mind, we will take a look at the top five free agent "backup" quarterbacks. There likely will be other quarterbacks added to this list in the coming weeks as they are released by their respective teams. That could include the likes of Mark Sanchez, Brandon Weeden, Jason Campbell, Matt Schaub and Blaine Gabbert.
  • Michael Vick: At this time, there's really no telling how Vick's offseason will turn out. He still thinks he can be a starter, but he'll have to find an NFL team that agrees with him. Most likely, his best-case scenario would be as a stopgap starter for a team that drafts a rookie. If he can't land a gig like that, he might just return to Philly to back up Nick Foles.
