There is plenty of debate about whether a player who is in the final year of his contract actually posts bigger numbers than normal. Theoretically, it makes sense that such a player would want to rack up maximum statistics to boost his market value, but football is a different format than, say, basketball, where a player can simply go out and make plays. For instance, a wideout can't make passes come his way.
