ESPN 150 CB talks about USC offer
By Damon Sayles
The Pac-12 has been kind to ESPN 150 cornerback Nick Watkins (Dallas/Bishop Dunne). Of his 26 offers, four are from the power conference. On Monday, he added an offer from one of the most recognizable programs of the Pac-12.
Watkins picked up an offer from USC on Monday afternoon. The four-star cornerback, ranked No. 63 in the ESPN 150, was excited to get the offer as the Trojans have a storied history of producing professional talent. They also have a ton of victories notched in their column since their first season in 1888. Not many teams can boast that they’ve won better than 70 percent of their games in history.
“It’s a program with a lot of great winning tradition,” Watkins said. “I don’t know a whole lot about them other than that, but I know they’re ranked every year.”
Watkins admitted that he needed to do additional homework on USC, but he said he’s willing to do so. USC is a place that intrigues the 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back. The Trojans join UCLA, Stanford and Colorado as Pac-12 schools to offer.
Whether or not Watkins will visit USC is still to be determined.
“I’m still just taking everything pretty slow,” Watkins said. “I’m still wide open, no matter what anyone else says. I’m just taking it slow and enjoying the process.”
Watkins is ranked No. 9 among cornerbacks nationally and also is No. 9 among players in Texas for the 2014 class.
