Texas LB recaps Baylor visit

By Damon Sayles

Tay Evans (Allen, Texas/Allen) proudly sports eight FBS offers. Ironically, only two are from his home state -- Rice and SMU.

Evans was hoping a weekend trip to Baylor would equate to a third Texas offer. While Evans, a hard-hitting, 6-foot-2, 200-pound outside linebacker, didn’t pick up the offer during the junior day, he said he enjoyed the experience and will continue to stay in touch with his recruiting contact at Baylor, linebackers coach Jim Gush.

“I liked the facilities and their weight room,” Evans said. “[The coaches] were cool. I liked them.”

Along with Rice and SMU, Evans currently has offers from Kansas State, Boise State, Arizona State, Nevada and San Diego State, and he most recently picked up an offer from Stanford.

Evans added that a Baylor offer would get significant consideration.

“Yeah, but they haven’t offered yet,” Evans said, “and I’m keeping my options open.”

Evans helped Allen claim the Texas Class 5A Division I state championship this past season. Allen finished No. 3 in the final ESPN 25 Power Rankings.
