Holmes is ready for recruiting
By Erik McKinney
Northern California has produced some standout receivers during the last few recruiting classes, and Justin Holmes (Sacramento, Calif./Oakmont) looks to continue that trend for the 2014 class.
Holmes, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound receiver, caught 44 passes for 715 yards and nine touchdowns and also returned a punt for a score last season.
This past summer, Holmes attended camps at California and Stanford, and said he showed well at both places. He'll hit the camp circuit again this off-season in the hopes of finding a quick end to his recruiting process. He's received early interest from Princeton and Yale, but hopes Pac-12 programs come calling soon. Those that do this spring could have a significant advantage when it comes to signing him.
"I plan on verbally committing by the end of the summer," Holmes said. "I really like how the Pac-12 is looking. Pretty much any team there would be good."
Holmes played some free safety during his sophomore season, but when his team went one-way only during his junior year, his talent at the wide receiver position kept him on offense. Now, Holmes hopes he'll be able to convince college coaches this spring that he is capable of making an impact at that position at the next level as well.
