Watch List S attends UW's junior day

When asked which schools have been recruiting him recently, Bishard “Budda” Baker (Bellevue, Wash./Bellevue) directed the question to his coaches.

Watch List safety Bishard Baker is keeping his recruitment on the back burner for the time being.
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound safety has let Wolverines coach Butch Goncharoff take control of the recruiting process, so he can focus on school and his work in the weight room.

However, he knows sooner than later he is going to have narrow his options.

“I’m still just going to be doing the same thing, working out every day with the team,” said Baker during a homework break Sunday. “I know a lot of colleges are going to be talking to me. Sooner or later I’m going to have to narrow it down, so it doesn’t become stressful.”

Throughout his high school career, Baker has always placed more importance on his teammates than recruiting. The scholarship offers have rolled in for the ESPN Watch List member, but it hasn’t changed Baker’s focus.

He credits his coaches for helping him through the process.

“If I didn’t have them, I don’t know what I would be doing,” Baker said. “I would kind of be stuck right now.”

Baker was one of the recruits at Washington’s junior day Saturday. He said he spent a lot of time talking to athlete Stanton Truitt (Monroe, Ga./Monroe Area).

“We just toured around the whole school; saw how big the dorms were,” Baker said. “My favorite part was going into the stadium when we had to put on all the construction gear. That was fun.”

When asked what he thought Husky Stadium would look like when finished, Baker said, “It’s going to be crazy. Anything is going to look great with $300 million.”
