While on an official visit to Nebraska, Mixon decided to reopen his recruiting with days remaining until national signing day. The 6-foot-4, 250-pound defensive end was only one of two players at the position in Missouri’s 2013 recruiting class.
Mixon didn’t say where he was leaning or if Nebraska was his new leader, but he did confirm that he was enjoying his visit during a Saturday evening phone call. Mixon, in addition to taking in the football experience, took in the Nebraska-Ohio State basketball game with other recruits visiting.
“I think this was the best decision for me and my family right now,” Mixon said. “I appreciate everything from Mizzou, but I’m going in a different direction right now.”
Mixon is ranked No. 72 among defensive ends nationally. He picked up a Nebraska offer earlier in the week and has been in contact with Cornhuskers defensive line coach Rick Kaczenski, defensive coordinator John Papuchis and linebackers coach/recruiting coordinator Ross Els.
Mixon has taken official visits to Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, West Virginia and Arizona State. He originally committed to Arizona State in May before switching to Missouri in December.
