Reeve Koehler looking at Vols, Jayhawks

By Damon Sayles

SAN ANTONIO -- Three-star offensive guard Reeve Koehler (Honolulu/St. Louis) has two decisions to make. First, where will he end up? Second, will he make that decision public?

The U.S. Army All-American said Tennessee and Kansas are front-runners in his recruiting process. Cal and Arkansas are on the outside looking in, primarily because he hasn’t had a chance to see them.

“Right now, I love Tennessee and I love Kansas,” Koehler said. “Tennessee has a new coaching staff, and Kansas has Charlie Weis. It’s basically even between those schools.”

Koehler said he has family in the Knoxville, Tenn., area, and they could be a factor in his final decision. On the other hand, he talked about the aesthetics of Lawrence, Kan., and said he was surprised with how the area looked.

“I thought it would be real flat and ugly,” Koehler said, “but it was beautiful.”

Koehler has been lining up at right guard for the West team during Army bowl practices. He said Wednesday will be a big day for him, as his family will arrive in San Antonio. Whether or not he announces on Saturday will be determined after the conversations he has with his family.

“When my family comes up, we’ll talk about it,” Koehler said. “We’ll take it from there.”

Koehler, a 6-foot-4, 321-pound lineman, is the No. 3 player in Hawaii in the 2013 recruiting class. He also is No. 37 among offensive guards nationally.
