The Early Offer: Bama's best class ever?
By Jeremy Crabtree
The Early Offer is RecruitingNation's latest feature, giving you a daily dose of recruiting in the mornings. Today's offerings: No team in America is more on fire than the Alabama Crimson Tide and they’re not done yet; UCLA gets two major DB commits and make an impression with new uniforms, and juco linebacker Errol Clarke II is quickly becoming a wanted man with Big 12 and SEC coaches.
Tide really rolling now When it comes to recruiting, momentum is everything. And no team has more momentum right now than the Alabama Crimson Tide. After landing the nation’s No. 3 player, five-star offensive tackle Cameron Robinson (West Monroe, La./West Monroe), Bama has a stranglehold on the nation’s No. 1 class. What’s even scarier is that the Tide aren’t even close to being finished. There are nine uncommitted five-star prospects left on the board, and Alabama is expected to get at least an official visit from eight of those players. No. 1 overall, running back Leonard Fournette (New Orleans/Saint Augustine), will pick between LSU and Alabama. Bama is the favorite to land corner Marlon Humphrey (Hoover, Ala./Hoover High). The Tide are also in great shape with defensive end Lorenzo Carter (Norcross, Ga./Norcross High), and Bama expects to get visits from defensive end Myles Garrett (Arlington, Texas/James Martin) and cornerback Tony Brown (Beaumont, Texas/Ozen) linebacker Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, Ga./Liberty County) and defensive end Da’Shawn Hand (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge). One SEC coach said, “It’s frightening to think about what could happen with this class” and there are already whispers from Tide fans about this being the best class ever.
Back in black Adidas released photos of UCLA’s uniforms that it will wear for its Nov. 15 showdown against Washington. The look, called “LA Midnight,” features black jerseys, pants and helmets and gloves that feature the Los Angeles skyline. Recruits all over the country gave the look big thumbs up. @SportsNation wasn’t the only one ready to commit to UCLA, too. The Bruins picked up significant pledges from ESPN 300 cornerback Adarius Pickett (El Cerrito, Calif./El Cerrito) and three-star corner Denzel Fisher (Compton, Calif./Centennial) on Tuesday. Pickett was a major recruiting victory for the Bruins over rival USC.
Juco LB ready for prime time
Most of the preseason attention at Garden City (Kan.) Community College was focused on linebacker D'Vonta Derricott, who committed to Kansas State before the start of the season. However, it’s his linebacker battery mate Errol Clarke II who has taken the Jayhawk Conference by storm. Through the first two games, the 6-foot-3, 240-pound Clarke has 20 tackles, four tackles for a loss, one sack and a blocked kick. He has scholarship offers from Cincinnati, the school he signed with in 2012 out of Miami Central, and Georgia State, but Buster assistant Merci Falaise believes more are on the way. “He can play anywhere,” Falaise said. “He’s a 3-for-3 guy that will have Big 12 and SEC schools all over him soon.”
