2015 OG Hoge lists LSU in top 3 after offer
By Josh Moyer
2015 OG Tristen Hoge (Pocatello, Idaho/Highland) lists LSU among his three favorites after head coach Les Miles wasted no time Tuesday in extending an offer.
Before Hoge, the nephew of former NFL running back Merril Hoge, began a tour of the facilities, Miles pulled him aside and told the 6-foot-4, 285-pound prospect that he wanted him to become part of the Tigers. And that move resonated with the rising junior.
"He gave me the offer right when I met him, and he wanted me to think on my tour if I could see myself there," Hoge said. "And I absolutely loved his energy as a coach. He balances the academics and athletics, so that's what I really liked."
Hoge now lists LSU in his early top three, along with Notre Dame and Penn State. He'd like to see games of those three schools this season if his schedule would allow, but seeing those schools might be tricky since they're so far away. He drove back to Pocatello on Wednesday night.
He currently holds seven offers from Boise State, BYU, LSU, Notre Dame, PSU, Utah and Washington State. He's visited five of those schools so far and said his favorite visits also came from his three top schools -- although he added he doesn't yet hold an overall favorite just yet.
"It's kind of a three-way tie right now," Hoge said. "I really like Notre Dame, Penn State and LSU right now."
Hoge is planning one more visit before the end of summer in Stanford, but he felt as if his LSU visit would stay with him for awhile. He singled out three or four elements that really excited him about the school.
"They have a forensic science program that I'm interested in studying, they're high energy and Coach Miles is a great guy and a great coach, and their O-line coach is also great," Hoge said. "Those are the main things that really struck me."
