LAS VEGAS -- Attention might be focused on the 2014 recruiting class right now, but top players are never content to wait their turn. At the New Level Athletics 7on7 West Regional in Las Vegas on March 2-3, a handful of 2015 prospects forced their way into the conversation with outstanding showings.
1. 2015 ATH Christian Kirk
5-foot-9, 167 pounds
Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro
Considering: Holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State and UCLA
What We Learned: Kirk was asked to pick up the slack offensively when Jalen Brown went down with an injury very early in the first game. Kirk did that and more. The shifty speedster showed why colleges are already actively recruiting him, as he caught and prevented a number of touchdowns.
“He does a lot for us,” Those Guys head coach Chuck Levy said. “He has great hands, great open-field athletic ability. We try to use him in the slot, try to get him one-on-one with people, and when we do that, he ends up winning. With his speed and his ability, you have to get him the ball. We use him in every capacity.”
One of the more interesting capacities was watching Kirk come onto the field as an interior defender on third downs, in order to use his speed to chase crossing routes.
