LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- In his UCLA blue, Scott Quessenberry (Carlsbad, Calif./La Costa Canyon) didn't mind being surrounded by red and black the Under Armour All-America Game registration at Disney's Yacht Club Resort.
The fresh, state-of-the-art Under Armour gear greeted him, and the other prospects, at Sunday's check in. And as he went around trying on the different items, Quessenberry couldn't help but get excited for this game.
"It is just awesome seeing all this stuff," he said. "I am just getting a bunch of gear right now. I am happy to be here and it is going to be a fun week."
But if he could choose one thing, the jerseys -- not the helmets, gloves or cleats -- are his absolute favorite.
"The jerseys," he said after some thought. "They are tight, they are so comfortable. The pants are nice. The gloves are cool. Everything is cool here."
Everyone involved at the Under Armour All-America Game, which kicks off at 5 p.m. ET Friday live on ESPN from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., is at the event because they are talented. That part is obvious.
Just because the game's outcome doesn't necessarily matter doesn't mean there aren't points to prove. But Quessenberry points out that it isn't worth anything unless they enjoy it, too.
"I just want to have fun and meet new people," he said. "It is going to be a competitive atmosphere. We are all here to be the best, but we are also here to have fun."
This exhibition contest is Quessenberry's last real action as a prep athlete. Next is UCLA, his college choice, and that brings him to the first Wednesday in February when he will fax his letter of intent.
"I am excited about it," he said. "We are moving in the right direction. We have a good recruiting class. Everything about it, it is looking good for the next four or five years."
Speaking with coach Jim Mora as often as possible has become a mutual priority. Quessenberry believes that will help him settle in as quick as possible once on campus.
"I talk to the coaches about once a week or twice a week," he said. "It is good to know that I have a solid relationship and now I am just ready to get started."
