Hunkle inks with Sacramento State

12/19/2012

A week ago, Dalton Hunkle (San Jacinto, Calif./Mount San Jacinto Community College) was talking about a possible official visit to California and weighing his options.

Wednesday night, Hunkle signed with Sacramento State.

How the Hornets landed the 6-foot-2, 210-pound wide receiver is an interesting story, as the Golden Bears postponed his visit last weekend. So he took an official to see Sacramento State instead, and that’s all it took.

“I really enjoyed my trip and time there,” Hunkle said. “I really got a feel for the coaches and players. I feel like I can succeed in that offense.”

The fact Hunkle finished this season with 75 receptions for 1,150 yards and scored 10 touchdowns sparked interest almost immediately.

The Hornets laid clam to the eighth-ranked passing offense in the nation this season. They see Hunkle as someone that can impact their team immediately.

“They throw the ball around and expect me to be an impact player right away,” Hunkle said. “They see me as the big, physical wideout on the outside. They want me to bring the physicality that I have to that offense.

“They feel like I’m the one piece they need from being a big-time team. They think I’m that piece to the puzzle to put them over the top.”

Hunkle also had offers from Northern Colorado and Troy.
