Wide receiver Rashard Higgins (Mesquite, Texas/Mesquite) had offers from FCS and Division II schools, but today he welcomed his first FBS offer.
Higgins, a 6-foot-2, 168-pound senior and 1,100-yard receiver, picked up an offer from Colorado State. He’s being recruited to Colorado State by receivers coach Alvis Whitted.
Higgins said he was relieved to pick up his first FBS offer, and while it is tempting he said he will weigh all of his options before making a decision.
“It feels good. I know my mom was happy,” Higgins said. “I know she wants to see me do good. I feel like I can do that at a place like Colorado State. I feel so blessed.
“I talked to [Whitted], and he said I can be a big factor for them. I feel like I could come in and maybe play my first year.”
Higgins said he will visit Colorado State on Jan. 18. He finished the season with 71 receptions for 1,149 yards and 11 touchdowns. Higgins was one of the leading receivers in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and helped Mesquite advance two rounds deep in the Texas Class 5A Division I playoffs. Mesquite lost, 42-28, in the second round to an Allen team playing for the state championship Saturday.
Higgins also has offers from McNeese State, Incarnate Word, Arkansas Tech and Emporia State.
