Dalton Hunkle (San Jacinto, Calif./Mount San Jacinto Community College) isn’t ready to commit to a school just yet, but the 6-foot-2, 210-pound wide receiver does have a favorite right now.
It comes in the form of California. That the Golden Bears are hosting him on an official visit this weekend makes it more enticing for the first team all-state selection.
“I’m looking to get a feel for the campus and the stadium and the entire football program,” Hunkle said. “Cal is probably at the top right now for me. I really like the new offensive coordinator they have. I like the offense they run. It feels like a really good fit for me.”
While he said he’s holding off until he gets a feel for the perfect school giving him the perfect offer, he’s leaving his options open.
Sacramento State and Northern Colorado have joined Cal with offers, while Bowling Green, Louisiana Tech, Marshall, Middle Tennessee State and Nevada have shown interest.
Hunkle finished this season with 75 receptions for 1,150 yards and scored 10 touchdowns.
They’re numbers he hopes translate to the next level.
“My coaches already told me I’m a football player first and a wide receiver second,” Hunkle said. “I’m a tough, aggressive wide receiver. I bring a lot of yards after catch. It’s definitely a big part of my game. I’m very aggressive out there.”
