Chico McClatcher pictures playing in college

11/15/2012

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Chico McClatcher wandered the Washington sideline wearing a Huskies hat.

The sophomore running back (Federal Way, Wash./Federal Way) watched as Washington prepared to play Utah last week. He is still a few years away from putting on a college uniform, but he can already picture playing at the next level.

“It’s beautiful,” McClatcher said. “I like seeing all these college players live their dreams. That’s my dream, to go to college and play football.”

The only thing missing in his picture right now is the colors of the uniform. While the standout is often seen wearing a black Washington hat, he still has a lot to consider before making his college choice.

He has time. He intends to take it.

But the sophomore did enjoy watching Washington beat Utah, 34-15.

“UW is a good team,” McClatcher said. “I always keep it in my mind about what college I want to go to, so it was good to see the running backs coach and the head coach, talk to them about the future. It was really good watching the game.”

McClatcher has been electric all season, but was forced to miss two games late in the year with a stomach ailment.

“It was very tough for me, but I just showed up and supported my team,” he said.

Even though he couldn’t contribute on the field, he was the first person to greet his teammates each time they came over to the sideline.

Now healthy, he will be counted on to contribute this weekend when Federal Way plays Camas (Wash.) in the Class 4A quarterfinals.

“It’s a great thing,” McClatcher said. “We’re just working really hard in practice, getting ready for Camas. We’ll be ready.”
