Wingfield brothers check out Nevada

11/12/2012

Their season is over, but recruiting is starting to heat up for twin brothers safety Eric Wingfield and running back Errian Wingfield (Fresno, Calif./Sunnyside).

Neither holds an offer at this point, but both were invited to Nevada this past weekend for unofficial visits. It was their first opportunity to experience that as a recruit, and they enjoyed everything about the trip.

"I had a good time meeting the coaches," Eric said. "It was a good opportunity to see what college is like. When I was a little kid, I always wished to be on a college field to watch a game and talk to the coaches."

"Nevada was good," Errian added. "The fans were cool and the players take pride in their jobs. I liked that."

Nevada is one of only two schools interested in both players -- the other is Iowa State. Eric is also hearing from BYU, Colorado State, Eastern Washington and San Jose State. Errian has heard from Arizona, Oregon, Sacramento State, UCLA and Utah.

A 5-foot-8, 184 pound safety, Eric is a big time hitter in the defensive backfield. He finished his senior season with 123 tackles, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries and nine forced fumbles. He said the Nevada coaches would like to see his senior film in order to evaluate him further.

Errian heard the same message from the Wolfpack staff, as well as the other schools showing interest.

"They said they'll keep me in mind, so we'll see at the end of the season," Errian said.

It's always something of a surprise to see twins go through the recruiting process not as a package deal, but with their combination of toughness and tenacity, it wouldn't be a shock at all to see college coaches take a longer look at the Wingfield brothers as the recruiting process goes along.
