It's not all that surprising to hear of a football player stepping onto the track and running a 10.58 in the 100 meters. It's also not that uncommon to see a 6-foot-2, 220-pound athlete capable of playing defensive end and tight end. But in Takkarist McKinley (Fremont, Calif./Kennedy), college coaches can find both.
McKinley posted the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the 100 meter dash at the CIF State Championships in early June and was one of only three juniors to make the finals in the event. But McKinley is taking things far more slowly when it comes to recruiting. He claims offers from Cal, Fresno State, San Jose State and Washington State, but has narrowed his focus to the Golden Bears.
"My main school is Cal," he said. "That's really the only one I talk to right now."
