The last Lompoc (Calif.) tailback to sign with the Washington Huskies still holds career records with 4,106 yards and 34 rushing touchdowns. It worked so well with Napoleon Kaufman, the Huskies will try it again with LaVon Coleman.
The 5-foot-10, 205-pound tailback announced his commitment to Washington on Friday while in Seattle for the Huskies Rising Stars Camp. He chose the Huskies over offers from Arizona, Boise State, California, Fresno State, Oregon State, San Diego State, UCLA, Utah and Washington State.
Coleman looked to make an early decision and Washington emerged as the clear leader in the past week. The Huskies were one of his first two offers and his relationship with head coach Steve Sarkisian played a large part in his decision.
As a junior, Coleman rushed for 2,038 yards and scored 26 touchdowns as he led the Braves to a CIF title. He is Washington’s first tailback commitment in this class and after a year without workhorse back Chris Polk, the Huskies could look to Coleman to step in as an every-down back early in his career.
