Oregon adds four-star OLB Swain

1/5/2014

Oregon continues to stockpile talent with the 2014 recruiting class, as the Ducks received a commitment from four-star outside linebacker Jimmie Swain IV (Olathe, Kan./Olathe North) during the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl on Sunday evening.

Swain committed to Oregon over Arkansas, Michigan State and Texas A&M.

"It's been a great process for me," Swain said during his televised commitment. "For the next four years, I'll be playing at the University of Oregon."

Originally a TCU commitment, Swain decommitted from the Horned Frogs in early December. He said he actually made the final decision on this commitment a while ago and informed all of the coaches involved, but he waited until now to make it public. Swain said he has a strong relationship with the Ducks coaches and likes the fact so many of them have been with the program for so long.

"It was seeing how all the coaches interacted with my mom," Swain said. "I know she likes to think she's not a big influence in my recruiting, but she really was one of the biggest factors in deciding to go to Oregon."

Swain took official visits to Arkansas in early November and to Texas A&M in early December, but a trip to Oregon in late November pushed the Ducks over the top.

With this commitment, the Ducks add yet another four-star recruit to their class. Oregon now has 17 verbal commitments in their 2014 class, including eight four-star prospects. Swain is the first linebacker commitment for Oregon in this class, and he gives the Ducks a terrific bridge between defensive linemen Tui Talia (Pleasant Hill, Calif./Diablo Valley College), Jalen Jelks (Phoenix/Desert Vista) and Justin Hollins (Arlington, Texas/James Martin), and secondary prospects in safety Glen Ihenacho (Gardena, Calif./Serra) and cornerback Arrion Springs (San Antonio/Theodore Roosevelt).
