Shaq Thompson (Sacramento, Calif./Grant) was supposed to make an unofficial visit to Cal this weekend but ended up making it an official and spent the whole weekend in Berkeley.
“I’ve been to Cal plenty of times before, but I still had a great time hanging out with everyone there,” Thompson said. “I didn’t really learn anything new about the school since I feel like I’ve already seen it all there. But I wanted to spend the weekend to get more familiar with the players and coaches and it was well worth it.
“I know a lot of the guys that visited and played 7-on-7 with a lot of them like Bryce [Treggs], Ishmael Adams, Jordan [Payton] and Chris Harper. I also know Arik Armstead pretty well, and we had a great time just hanging out with each other and talking about what could happen if we all went to school together. Another highlight was seeing the high performance center, it’s pretty incredible and will be the best in the nation when it’s all done.”
Thompson had previously visited Arizona State, Notre Dame, Oregon and Washington, and he is now done with his trips.
“My final five are Cal, Washington, USC, Notre Dame and Oregon,” Thompson said. “I’ll make my decision at the Army All-American game, and right now everyone is still in it and has a chance.”
