Arkansas has done a nice job recruiting out West this year, especially in Arizona. After a home visit with athlete Davonte Neal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) Monday night, the Razorbacks will get an official visit in January.
Neal, recently named the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year, will take his first official visit this weekend to Notre Dame and set up his second visit Monday night.
“Arkansas was here and they came strong,” Neal’s father Luke said. “They graduate some receivers and they said Davonte could come in right away and be an impact player. We like that offense at Arkansas a lot and I like the coaching staff. They were just real up front with us and told Davonte basically, ‘we want you to do what you do,’ and I think he liked that. He’s going to visit (Jan. 20) and that should be a good time for him.”
Ohio State will be in the home Thursday and the Buckeyes were Neal’s childhood favorite.
“Davonte was born in Akron and lived there until he was 9,” Neal said. “He loved Ohio State and was a ball boy for two of their games growing up. They have been recruiting Davonte since he was a freshman and even after [Jim] Tressel was fired, they stayed in touch and said, ‘we have a good guy coming in, don’t worry about it.’ Urban Meyer is a big-time coach and he’s supposed to come by next week. If Ohio State is having visitors on the 16th of this month, we would love to visit that weekend.”
Tennessee and USC are also expected in the home this week and a visit to LSU could be set up shortly as well.
“Ideally, we would like to take two in December and three in January,” Neal said. “USC is high on the list but I don’t think Davonte wants to use one of his five visits on them right now, just because he has already been there multiple times. We’ve been talking and I said you should probably visit the five schools you’re highest on but I think he wants to visit five schools he has never seen before so we’ll see how that works out.”
