Garnett talks Michigan trip, home visits

12/1/2011

Michigan didn’t seem like much of a player for ESPNU 150 offensive lineman Josh Garnett (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup) prior to his official visit this past weekend. After leaving Ann Arbor, that has definitely changed.

Garnett, No. 42 in the ESPNU 150 and the No. 8 offensive tackle in the nation, isn’t close to making a decision but expect the Wolverines to be in this one until the very end.

“It was way better than I thought it would be,” Garnett said. “To be honest, I don’t know what I thought it was going to be like but it really exceeded my expectations. I think the fan support, the academics and just all the tradition at Michigan is what really blew me away. I felt very comfortable there and I’m definitely going to be giving Michigan a long, hard look.

“My boy Erik Magnuson was there and it was cool to see him again. We bonded really well at The Opening in Oregon and he has been talking to me about Michigan for months. After seeing it for myself, he doesn’t need to talk it up anymore because I can see what a great school it is. It’s not just football, it’s the academic support and alumni support that I was really interested in. That has always been most important to me and I was really impressed for sure.”

Garnett has had a busy week of home visits with a different school coming over almost every day.

“I had Stanford on Monday,” Garnett said. “Auburn came Wednesday, Notre Dame will be over Thursday and Michigan on Friday. I’m still talking with Washington but don’t have a date with them set up yet. I still plan to take official visits to Notre Dame (Dec. 9) and will visit Oklahoma and Miami in January. Hopefully I’ll be able to make my decision later that month before signing day.”
