Running back Shaquille Powell (Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman) visited Nevada over the weekend and will head to the East Coast for his next official visit.
Powell, a three-star recruit and the No. 4 player in the state, is a talented two-way player but is being recruited primarily at running back.
“I liked Nevada a lot, it’s a good, comfortable fit for me,” Powell said. “They have a good offense and I think I could play early there. The pistol offense is something new but I think I could get used to it. Location doesn’t really matter to me, I just want to find a place where I can get better and where I’m comfortable and I think Nevada fits that.”
Powell’s next visit will be to Duke and he could set up two other trips as well. He visited Fresno State officially back in September
“I’m excited to see Duke,” Powell said. “I don’t know as much about the school but I heard a lot of great things. Bishop Gorman is a private school like Duke so I’m already comfortable with that and I think the weekend I’m going, the basketball team will have a game so it should be fun to see that as well.
“I haven’t set up any other visits but I’m looking at Vanderbilt and Utah as well. Right now, I don’t have a leader among those schools. I enjoyed the visits to Fresno State and Nevada equally and I honestly couldn’t decide between them. Once I take all my visits, I’ll be able to weigh the pros and cons of each school and them make my decision.”
