Drake Whitehurst’s recruiting road took a fortuitous turn late in the process.
The 6-foot-6, 215-pound receiver out of City College of San Francisco spent much of the season trying to weigh scholarship offers from Middle Tennessee and Idaho and a preferred walk-on opportunity at Oregon.
Whitehurst wanted to become a scholarship player for a Pac-12 program, but he didn’t know if that goal would become a reality. Surprisingly, it did, and at an unexpected school.
