New Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez hit the phones Tuesday night and one of the first players he called was offensive lineman Beau Boyster (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco).
Boyster was an early Wildcat commitment and has since seen his stock soar in recent weeks. He’s a true center prospect and one of the best at his position in the entire West Region.
“I’ve gotten five or six new offers in the last two weeks,” Boyster said. “Illinois, Utah, Utah State, Oregon State, Washington State and Arizona State have all offered. I’m also hearing a lot from TCU and they’re coming down to my game this Friday to evaluate me before deciding to offer.
“Right now, I have a visit set with Oregon for (Dec. 9) and Illinois for (Dec. 16). I really like Oregon a lot and have a great relationship with Steve Greatwood, the line coach. They have been recruiting me hard for three years now and were the first school to call me back when they were able to. They haven’t offered yet but said all they need to do is eyeball me on the visit and I’ll have an offer within 10 minutes so that’s exciting.”
As for his conversation with Rodriguez, Boyster said he was excited to hear from him.
“He seemed like a really good guy,” Boyster said. “He sounded fired up and excited to talk to me. He said he was hitting the phones and calling all the players who were committed and wanted me to help spread the word that Arizona was still the best place for all of us.
“He really wants me to visit, he asked me to come up this weekend but I said we had a playoff game and it was a little too soon. He also said he’s going to be interviewing current assistant coaches and the first guy he plans to talk with my position coach, Robert Anae. I love Coach Anae and if they keep him, that will definitely play a big role in what I ultimately choose to do. He said he plans to have his whole staff in place in two weeks so he’s moving quick.”
