Darius Allensworth (Romoland, Calif./Heritage) committed to California in August, but the 5-foot-11, 174-pound athlete maintained that he would take his official visits this fall. Over the weekend, Allensworth used his first to check out the Wisconsin Badgers.
"It was great," Allensworth said. "There were a lot of good experiences. I'd recommend everybody go to a game at Camp Randall."
Allensworth said the visit lived up to all of his expectations, with the added bonus of being able to experience Halloween in Madison, Wis. The college-town feel of the area made an impact as well.
"It's all about the Badgers there," he said. "There was a great vibe -- a good, energetic vibe from the fans before the game."
Wisconsin is recruiting Allensworth as a cornerback, which is where a majority of programs see him fitting.
"They said they have people leaving, so I can come in and compete early," Allensworth said. "I'd fit in great. They ran kind of the same stuff I run in high school, with some man coverage and some blitzing."
Allensworth said he was able to spend plenty of time with the Badgers' coaches and wasn't put off at all by the weather, which he said was pleasant throughout his visit. Wisconsin has been an intriguing option for Allensworth since the Badgers offered. He made an early commitment to Arizona before backing away after some unofficial visits and eventually decided on California. But after this visit, Allensworth said he is still going through the recruiting process.
"This throws Wisconsin in there, but we'll just have to see how it goes," Allensworth said. "There's a couple more visits I'm going to take, and then we'll see what happens."
Allensworth said Arizona State and UCLA will receive official visits, before his final trip to Cal. No dates are set for those trips.
