California added commitment No. 11 to its recruiting class on Thursday, as wide receiver Torry McTyer (Los Angeles/Cathedral) pledged to the Golden Bears.
It was something of a quick recruitment for the 6-foot-1, 170-pound McTyer, who received a scholarship offer from California early last week, took an unofficial visit this past weekend and pulled the trigger on Thursday. But the road to this point began several years ago.
"I've liked Cal ever since my step-brother took his official visit there," McTyer said of UCLA's Anthony Jefferson. "I liked the campus and the coaches."
During his unofficial visit, McTyer was able to spend time with those coaches, as well as several players, and came away thinking about committing.
"I talked a little with my family and I really loved the school and the coaches," McTyer said. "I talked to coach [Ron] Gould about it and he was really excited about it."
McTyer is unsure whether he will play offense or defensive for the Bears, as he is capable of performing at wide receiver or defensive back. He said he is confident that he will be able to help on either side of the ball. He will take an official visit to Cal later in the year, but will wait for the coaching staff to choose the weekend.
"The next step is just to work hard and try to get better every day," McTyer said.
