Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita quarterback Johnny Stanton has suffered an ACL injury that will require surgery, the school announced Saturday.
The 6-foot-2, 221-pound senior, who gave a verbal commitment to Nebraska in July, was injured during the Eagles' 35-27 victory over Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure on Friday.
Rated the No. 10 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, Stanton had completed 59 of 88 passes for 949 yards and 11 touchdowns through five games this season for the nation's top-ranked team. He also rushed for 386 yards and eight touchdowns on 47 carries. Stanton is Santa Margarita's all-time leader in total offense with 5,558 yards. He is fourth on the school's career passing passing yardage list with 3,576 yards.
