Because of a transfer issue, the Los Angeles Franklin football team was without its presumed starting quarterback for the entire 2011 season. As a result, Josh Taylor, the top athlete in the program, was asked to step in and take over the role.
One year later, Taylor is back at wide receiver -- his natural position -- and the 6-foot-3, 175-pound player responded in a big way in the season opener. In a 35-25 victory over Los Angeles Santee on Friday night, Taylor accounted for all five touchdowns -- three receiving, one rushing and one fumble return.
“I was just anxious to get out there and play with my teammates, and just to prove to everybody that I can be a receiver,” Taylor said. “A lot of people said that because I played quarterback last year, they were wondering how I would do at receiver.”
