RB Joseph Ajeigbe commits to Duke

The Duke Blue Devils reached across the country on Wednesday to pluck a talented tailback in Joseph Ajeigbe (Norco, Calif./Norco) from Southern California.

Ajeigbe maintained throughout the process that academics would play a big role in his decision, so his decision to commit to Duke didn’t come as much of a shock. The 5-foot-8, 211-pound tailback selected the Blue Devils over offers from Air Force, Arizona and Northwestern.

“I thought it was time to do it,” Ajeigbe said of committing. “Coach Cut (David Cutcliffe) and all the coaches made me feel really comfortable. It is a strong educational school. I discussed it with my coaches and my family and we thought it would be good to do it.”

Ajeigbe took an unofficial visit to Duke last month and came away very impressed.

“I like the facilities and the vision the coach has for the future,” he said. “I think the program is going in the right direction and it will be nice to be a part of a program like that.”

Ajeigbe rushed for 1,573 yards and 18 touchdowns during his junior season, which included a six-carry, four-touchdown performance in a win over Corona (Calif.). He is the No. 15 commitment in Duke’s 2013 recruiting class, and the second from California.

“It’s definitely a lot of pressure off my shoulders,” Ajeigbe said of making his decision. “Now I know I have a place to be. It feels good.”
