Luca Bruno makes the call for Arizona

8/11/2012

Luca Bruno (Oak Park, Calif./Oak Park) planned to wait until the midpoint of his senior season to make a verbal commitment. But with available spaces running low at his top school, Bruno couldn’t hold off any longer, and the Arizona Wildcats’ 2013 recruiting class took another step forward Saturday.

“I just committed to [Arizona] today,” Bruno said. “They were my top school for about three months now and they have always been at the top of my list.”

Bruno said with only two remaining spots in Arizona’s 2013 class, he felt it was a now-or-never situation. Although, nothing about his decision was rushed.

“I toured a few schools this summer and there were about 10 or 15 schools I looked at on unofficials,” Bruno said. “But Arizona has been standing out the most. I’m most comfortable with the coaches there.”

One of the things Bruno looked at the most in his research was the training methods used by each program. On top of that, he liked the way Arizona’s football mentality fit with his own.

“I like that hardcore football that they can bring to the table,” Bruno said. “And with the school life and academics they have, I feel very comfortable there.”

The 6-foot-3, 280-pound lineman said his commitment to Arizona is firm and he will definitely use an official visit there. He added that there is a chance he would take official visits elsewhere, including SMU, which was another school that stood out early.

Bruno said the Wildcats will bring him in as a defensive tackle, although he could possibly slide out to defensive end at some point.

He is commitment No. 25 for Arizona’s 2013 class, and another California standout hauled in by head coach Rich Rodriguez and staff.
