Darius Allensworth (Romoland, Calif./Heritage) committed to the Arizona Wildats in April, but the 5-foot-11, 174-pound wide receiver saw his recruitment pick up in a big way after he made that pledge.
Wisconsin and California are two schools that made their way into the picture and now stand with Arizona as the final three schools for Allensworth, though he makes sure to point out that he is still committed to the Wildcats. But Allensworth will do as much research as he needs to do before he makes his decision final. He took an unofficial visit to Wisconsin earlier this month and will visit California next weekend. After that, he plans to regroup and announce a final decision on August 16, between his final three choices.
Wisconsin might seem an odd fit in that final grouping, but Allensworth, after recovering from his initial shock at the Badgers’ interest, didn’t hesitate to return the favor.
“They went to back-to-back Rose Bowls and were Big Ten champs,” Allensworth said. “I wanted to go out there and see it for myself.”
His visit to Madison left a very positive impression.
“That didn’t hurt at all,” he said. “It was a good experience. I didn’t expect Wisconsin to be what it was. I was glad I got to see it myself.”
Now, Allensworth prepares himself for his final visit before he announces his decision.
“I’m going to go to Cal with the same mindset,” he said. “I want to see how my relationship is with the coaching staff and check the place out myself.”
Allensworth plans to sit down with his father after this visit to discuss his options and the trips. He said he knows this will be his final decision, and he understands how difficult it could be to make.
“I love Arizona and the staff,” he said. “They were there for me Day 1 and I still think I’m going to be going there. But we’ll see what happens.”
