Within an hour of giving Notre Dame a verbal commitment June 26, Danny Mattingly had 35 voicemails on his cell phone.
Instead of calling people back, the outside linebacker from Spokane (Wash.) Mead turned off the phone. Then he talked to his mother, Carolyn.
“Mom, I think you should turn off my phone for a couple of weeks,” he said.
