Christian Morris liked heading west as a boy and now that that he's older, he'll be doing it again.
The three-star offensive tackle from Memphis (Tenn.) East, who used at head to Seattle for family reunions as a boy, committed to UCLA on Thursday.
So what did he like so much about being out west?
“I'm not sure,” he said with a chuckle “Back then, I used to go out there and it was very good weather.”
The weather at UCLA should be even better than it was in Seattle. Moreover, Morris said he always felt close to the coaches that recruited him to be a Bruin.
“It felt like it's family,” Morris said. “The coaches are fantastic. Family is very important to me. I love the location out there and the campus.”
Morris chose UCLA primarily over Nebraska. It was no easy decision for the prospect that had over a dozen scholarship offers to chose from.
“It was very tough,” he said of turning down the Cornhuskers.
Morris was a bit of a late bloomer when he burst on the scene during the spring evaluation period this year. As more college recruiters went to his high school to see him and a talented crop of seniors, Morris stood out.
At one point, UCLA-rival Southern California even offered Morris a scholarship. Then, the Trojans seemed to back off. That should provide plenty of motivation.
“I'm coming into play my first year,” Morris said.
