In recruiting news that doesn't exactly qualify as a shocker, wide receiver Francis Owusu (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian) has made a verbal commitment to the Stanford Cardinal. Owusu's older brother, Chris Owusu, just finished his career with the Cardinal, and Stanford was always a heavy favorite for the 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver.
Nevertheless, it's an important pickup for the Cardinal, who add the No. 5 wideout in the state and No. 244 player overall. Other offers for Owusu came from schools such as Florida, Nebraska, Oregon State, UCLA, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin. He is the fourth commitment for Stanford in the 2013 recruiting class and all four are in the ESPN 300.
Owusu caught 35 passes for 705 yards and eight touchdowns during his junior season.
