It was only a little more than two weeks ago that Ohio State was sitting No. 2 behind Arizona State on Marcus Baugh’s leaderboard. In recruiting, two weeks might as well be two years, though, and on Tuesday Baugh committed to the Buckeyes.
“I felt like it was the best place for me,” the ESPNU 150 Watch List tight end said. “I want to play under Urban Meyer. I love the way he’s going to use me … like Aaron Hernandez.”
The Buckeyes trailed Arizona State previously partially because Baugh visited the Sun Devils and had yet to see Ohio State in person. Baugh still has not visited Ohio State, but it was not enough to keep him from committing.
Baugh’s family and coaches were not reluctant about him committing to a program he has not visited either.
“They love the idea. They thought it was really great for me,” said Baugh, who still does not have a firm date to visit the Buckeyes. “My parents thought it was a good decision. Everything was left up to me.”
At 6-foot-4 and 229 pounds, Baugh is almost the same size as Hernandez when the Pro Bowl tight end was coming out of high school. Baugh said their skill sets are similar, too.
“I would say I’m the same kind of H-back type,” Baugh said. “I can flex out, be put on the line and block. I can take a handoff.”
Baugh said he even surprised himself with a commitment this early, but now that he has made one he does not plan on wavering one bit.
“I’m 100 percent to Ohio State.”
The Buckeyes now have eight commitments in their 2013 class, six of whom are members of the ESPNU 150 Watch List.
