Yuri Wright excited about second chance

1/25/2012

After making what he admits to being a ‘huge mistake,’ defensive back Yuri Wright (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) is looking forward to a fresh start when heads to Colorado next fall.

Wright’s story is already well documented. He was kicked out Don Bosco after a series of controversial tweets went viral.

“I made a huge mistake,” Wright said. “I definitely learned a valuable lesson, and I promise nothing like that will ever happen again. Everyone that knows me knows that’s not my true character or who I really am. I’m not going to sit here and try and make excuses for what I did. I’m just going to be a man and say I was wrong and I learned from it.

“Hopefully other people will learn from what happened to me and make smarter choices. My days with social media are over I promise."

Wright surprised some people when he committed to Colorado on Tuesday over Rutgers and Notre Dame. There was talk that Wright picked the school that was as far away from home as possible but the defensive back said the Buffs were always very high on hist list.

“I basically fell in love with the school on my visit there,” Wright said. “I had an instant connection with coach [Jon] Embree and coach [Greg] Brown. The players were all great with me and I loved the area. The idea of leaving home appealed to me, so I could experience something new, not because I was running from anything.

“When all this happened, Coach Embree stuck with me and I’m very grateful that he gave me a second chance. He knows my character and what kind of person I am. I’m very excited about the opportunity to get out to Colorado and getting a fresh start. It was tough to get kicked out of school, but I’m going to finish up and then I can’t wait to get out to Colorado and start that new chapter of my life. Hopefully, people won’t judge me and will give me the same second chance Coach Embree did. I’m not going to blow it again.”
