Athlete Zach Hoffpauir (Peoria, Ariz./Centennial) is a longtime Cal commit but has taken official visits in the past few weeks to Stanford and Arizona State.
“I was at ASU this past weekend and really liked it,” Hoffpauir said. “I hit it off really well with the new coaches and I like what they’re bringing to the program. You can tell there’s going to be a lot more discipline with this new staff and they seem to care a lot more about the players as well.
“I think overall, they have a really good staff and I think academically, they have a good support system set up for the players as well. They like me at safety and feel I’ll have a chance to come in and compete for playing time early, so that’s good. Overall, I was really impressed with the visit and I’m glad I took it. ASU is definitely an option for me now.”
Hoffpauir had a good visit to Palo Alto a few weeks ago and then received more good news earlier in the week from the Cardinal.
“I just found out that I got accepted in to Stanford,” Hoffpauir said. “I had a great visit there and had a really cool experience. With Stanford, you never feel like you can completely evaluate them until you know if you’re accepted in to the school or not so it definitely feels good to know that I have Stanford as an option.
“Right now, I’m still committed to Cal but I’m weighing all my options. I’m not taking any more visits and I’ll make my final decision on Signing Day. I think even I did decide to change my commitment to another school, I don’t want to make any big announcements, I’m just going to wait until Signing Day and just sign a letter with whatever school I choose.”
