Arizona has always been in a good spot for defensive end Kyle Kelley (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge) and after his official visit to Tucson last weekend, the athlete ended the recruiting process.
Kelley was an early commitment to Arizona but decided to take some visits following the coaching change. He checked out Colorado and Oklahoma and had home visits set up with both schools this week but canceled both upon returning home from Tucson.
“I’m solid with Arizona and I’m not looking at any other schools,” Kelley said. “I was always leaning to UA and being on campus with the coaches and the rest of the players and recruits really made me see what a great place it was. I love the new coaching staff and felt more comfortable at Arizona than any other school.
“It was hard to tell the other schools that I was no longer interested but they all understood. I love the campus at UA and I like the defense they plan to run. They want me as a defensive end and in their 3-3-5 scheme, the defensive end plays the five technique about 80% of the time and that’s what I’m used to. In know I need to get bigger and I’m already up to 238 pounds right now. I’m trying to get to 245 by the summer and I’ll feel real good at that weight.”
Kelley said head coach Rich Rodriguez will be over on Tuesday for a home visit.
