Shepard excited for next chapter

1/10/2012

The recruitment of Tee Shepard (Fresno, Calif./Washington Union) has been one of the most interesting to watch all year. Shepard committed early to Notre Dame, visited Arizona State and USC and reportedly gave the Trojans a very hard look.

This one now appears over, as the talented corner is headed to South Bend this weekend and will start classes for the Irish later this month as an early enrollee.

“I actually leave on Saturday,” Shepard said. “I’m so relieved this whole process is over. The past month has been stressful, and I had a lot of people pulling me in different directions. I stayed strong in the end, though, and I’m happy to be going with my first choice all along, which is Notre Dame.

“USC came hard and were very aggressive. They gave me something to think about for sure, but I’m excited to get out to Notre Dame and take care of business. I’m not sure the exact day I start classes but I’m looking forward to it. I missed a lot of football last season, so I’m energized and ready to go.”

Shepard transferred from Central high school to Washington Union for the sole reason of graduating early. Central does not allow students to graduate mid-year and even though it cost him his eligibility, Shepard said it was worth it.

“I definitely missed football last season,” Shepard said. “I had fun playing in the all-star games, but I’m ready to go and can’t wait for spring practice to get here. It’s a new challenge but I’m hoping to see the field early and like I said, I can’t wait to get started.”
