Monday morning, linebacker Kenny Orjioke (Marietta, Ga./Lassister) said he planned to make his college choice on Wednesday, after talking things over with his parents. The talented athlete said he couldn’t wait that long.
“I just called Coach Mora and committed to UCLA,” Orjioke said. “I know I said I wanted to wait until Wednesday, but I didn’t see any need to wait any longer when I knew I wanted to be a Bruin. This is my dream school and where I always wanted to go. When they offered Sunday night, I couldn’t believe it. I was stunned.
“Even right now, it hasn’t really hit me yet that I’m a Bruin. It’s amazing how fast everything came together for me. I just started to hear from them a week ago, coach Mora offered me last night, and now I’m committing the next day. It doesn’t feel rushed though, because this is what I always wanted, and I’m blown away at the chance to get out there.”
Orjioke played his junior year at San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) J Serra and said he’s anxious to get back to the Golden State.
“I miss the weather for sure,” Orjioke said. “UCLA is more than just weather, though. The academics are incredible, and my parents were really excited for me to have this opportunity, as well. I like Coach Mora and Coach Klemm, who was recruiting me at SMU. I really feel like UCLA is building something, and I’m very excited to be a part of Coach Mora’s first recruiting class.”
Orjioke took official visits to Arizona State and San Diego State and will visit UCLA (Jan. 6). He set up an official visit to Arkansas for (Jan. 13) but said he wasn’t sure if he’ll be taking any more official visits.
