Could Ga. LB Orjioke head back West?

12/19/2011

Linebacker Kenny Orjioke (Marietta, Ga./Lassister) picked up his dream offer on Sunday and the talented athlete could be headed back home sooner rather than later.

Orjioke played at San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) J Serra a year ago but moved to Georgia due to a job relocation. The athlete just turned 16 in the summer so he’s more than a full year younger than most of the players he has gone up against but has still had a big senior year.

Orjioke has taken official visits to Arizona State and San Diego State and could be headed back to the West Coast permanently after his most recent offer.

“UCLA just offered last night,” Orjioke said. “I talked to Jim L. Mora and when he told me I had an offer, I was so pumped up. Coach [Adrian] Klemm, who’s the new OL coach at UCLA, had offered me at SMU so I was hopeful they would start to recruit me. Over the last week, I started to hear more from them and they already knew I had a lot of interest in the school.

“I’ve always been a UCLA fan so this is big deal. I love the academics there, the depth chart is good and I can compete for playing time early and the campus is gorgeous. UCLA is the most applied to school in the country, it’s right next to the beach, the weather is great and I really like the new coaching staff Mora is putting together.”

Orjioke said he’s not planning to waste much time in making his decision and it could actually happen later this week.

“I plan to commit this Wednesday,” Orjioke said. “I still have some January visits I set up that I want to take no matter what but I’m going to do it this week. I have a visit to UCLA (Jan. 6) and Arkansas (Jan. 13) and I’ll take those no matter what. Right now, I really like UCLA a lot but I need to sit down with my parents and discuss it with them. Of course they’re really high on UCLA too because of the academics so they’re looking pretty good right now.”
