La Habra (Calif.) linebacker Aaron Porter (6-foot-1, 230 pounds) has had several schools in for home visits and will take an unofficial visit close to home this weekend.
Porter, the fifth-ranked inside linebacker in the nation by ESPNU, is one of the top recruits on the UCLA commitment list and is still strong with the Bruins, although other schools are trying to get their foot in the door as well.
“I got a nice call from Coach Mora last night,” Porter said. “He had just passed the recruiting test, so it’s cool that he called me on the first night he could. I really like this hire a lot. He’s a defensive minded coach who’s all about toughness, and that’s just what UCLA needs.
“I’m going up there on Saturday to meet all the new coaches. There is supposed to be a lot of other guys there too, some big name guys, so that should be fun. UCLA is looking really good for me right now, but I’m still talking with some other schools, and we’ll see what happens.”
Porter said Washington and Arizona have come in for home visits, and Mike Leach at Washington State will be over Thursday night.
“Coach Sark and Nick Holt were here for Washington,” Porter said. “Coach Rodriguez from Arizona came over as well. I liked all those guys a lot, and I’m looking forward to meeting Coach Leach. I’m feeling good about UCLA though, it’s going to take a lot to get me to leave with the new staff they’re bringing in.”
