Running back Byron Marshall (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian) Byron Marshall visited Cal over the weekend despite being an Oregon commit.

Marshall, the top back in the West, committed to the Ducks more than a month ago but decided to follow through on a visit to Cal he had set before his Oregon commitment.

“The visit was just how I thought it would be, and I had a lot of fun,” Marshall said. “I knew a lot of the guys and they were definitely trying to sell me on Cal. A lot of the guys on the visit are either committed to Cal or thinking strongly about it, but it was all in good fun. They were saying, 'You might as well commit, everyone else here is,' and things like that, but I'm still very solid to Oregon.

“Cal is a great program, and I enjoyed watching the team practice and hanging with Coach G [Ron Gould]. Still there’s a reason why I committed to Oregon, and I’m very happy with that decision. I fit in really well in that offense, and I have a great relationship with the coaching staff there, and I really like Coach Campbell. I wanted to do this visit to Cal, but I’m done with any more trips, and my commitment is rock solid.”
