Darius Powe (Lakewood, Calif.) went into his weekend visit to Cal with Oregon State in a comfortable lead. Before the visit was half over, he was a Bear.
Powe took an official visit to Oregon State in November, and the Beavers seemed to be in a good position to land the talented receiver.
“Oregon State was definitely my leader but Cal was such a great fit for me,” Powe said. “I didn’t know I was going to like it as much as I did, but I knew right away it was the best place for me. I actually committed on Saturday and I’m very excited to be a Bear right now.
“From a football standpoint, Cal needs receivers pretty bad and the depth chart is wide open. The coaches told me I have a chance to come in and compete for playing time right away. Academically is what really set Cal apart. Cal is a great school academically and the opportunities after football is over are pretty incredible there.”
Cal now has four receiver commitments including Powe, and it will be interesting to see if the Bears have room for a fifth. Jordan Payton (Westlake Village, Calif./Oaks Christian) also visited Cal this weekend and reportedly had a great time.
